Blockchain is opening new perspectives in the world of extra virgin olive oil, introducing an unprecedented level of transparency and security. Thanks to this technology, every phase of the supply chain – from olive harvesting to milling, from bottling to distribution – is recorded in an indelible and unmodifiable way. A simple QR code on the label allows consumers to access a “digital ID card” of the oil, with verified data about olive origin, processing techniques, and obtained certifications.

Our group has had the opportunity in recent years to explore these topics through a long collaboration with the Blockchain Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano. From this experience and the relationships we’ve built, we decided to use this technology to implement traceability for our olive oil (and that of our partners, an equity crowdfunding campaign is currently active, info here). We’ve done this in collaboration with Trusty, an Italian Benefit Corporation operating internationally and specialized in digital traceability and compliance of production chains, particularly in agri-food. They stand out for their technological solution dedicated to EUDR Regulation compliance, validated by RINA.

These choices not only strengthen end-customer trust, enabling informed purchasing decisions, but also protect serious producers from fraud and counterfeiting that damage the sector’s reputation.
Blockchain traceability thus becomes added value: a quality guarantee, marketing tool, and powerful differentiator for those who want to share the authenticity of genuine Italian extra virgin olive oil with the world.
