Frantoio del Monte Pisano: Leonardo Paolino’s New Venture

The new project in the Municipality of Vicopisano (Pisa) by entrepreneur Leonardo Paolino involves an investment of 1.3 million euros to revitalize the Caprona oil mill “Frantoio del Monte Pisano” and, more broadly, olive growing in the Monte Pisano area, through the redevelopment of the entire plant with significant efficiency improvements, modernizations, and optimizations to machinery and the entire production line.

Vicopisano, February 8, 2024 – Bringing back the historic ‘Caprona Oil Mill’ to its original function: contributing to support olive growing on Monte Pisano by revitalizing the olive oil sector and related industries. This is the challenge undertaken by entrepreneur Leonardo Paolino – CEO of Podere del Pari, a new startup within the company Extra Group dedicated to revitalizing the olive oil industry – which has invested 1.3 million euros in the project. For the management and care of Frantoio del Monte Pisano – located in the municipality of Vicopisano (PI) – the investment involves the redevelopment of the entire plant through significant efficiency improvements, modernizations, and optimizations to machinery and the entire production line.

The new management

The new management will be made possible by hiring competent and stable staff,” emphasizes the company. “Starting from the coming weeks, Frantoio del Monte Pisano will also be rejuvenated aesthetically, both externally and internally. The goal is to be ready for the next season to meet the high quality and service standards that we have set as our primary objective.” Frantoio del Monte Pisano is thus preparing for a new adventure, led, as in the last six years, by the current president of the Cooperative Oil Mill of the Monti Pisani, Caterina Da Cascina. “We are pleased with Leonardo Paolino’s arrival,” says Caterina Da Cascina. “After six years, a lot of effort, and a lot of money invested, including my own, starting from a dramatic initial situation, we had reached the point of no return, where we couldn’t cover the expenses.”

On one side, the Cooperative; on the other, Leonardo Paolino’s venture, investing in the future of Monte Pisano and its extra virgin olive oil. “Over the years,” adds Paolino, “the need to dedicate my energies to ‘primary’ activities, those for which you feel you have contributed to the improvement of our community, has become increasingly evident. I want to reverse the trend that sees olive groves reaching abandonment rates of more or less intense levels exceeding 70%. I want to do something for our territory.” The Cooperative will provide its members with access to services at subsidized prices. “For our members,” adds Caterina Da Cascina, “services will be, as always, at a discounted rate and of higher quality. The Cooperative is more alive than ever and will maintain a function of safeguarding and control for its members. In addition to organizing events and promotional activities on Monte Pisano.
